Change 20 - Write Notes

I have decided to write notes - thank you notes and letters of encouragement - to the people in my life.

Yesterday, I received a thank you note in the mail.  I was impressed that the sender took the time to write me, considering that what I had done for them was ‘nothing much’ in my eyes.  Receiving the thank you note made me realize that I’m doing a poor job of encouraging others.  So, from now on, I’ll work harder to send notes to people.

For the most part, I’ll send old fashioned cards or letters, but in come cases, I’ll just send an email.  I have several people that I need to thank who helped me on a recent project.  Instead of just telling them thanks, perhaps a note in the mail will show them just how thankful I really am for their help.

What about you?  Do you send thank you notes - or letters of encouragement?  Why or why not?

  2. Hi - just found your site this morning through SimpleMom. I DO write notes - thank yous, encouragement, and just because. What I have found, though is that while everyone LOVES to get them few people reciprocate. You’d think that when they realized how it makes them feel to be on the receiving end it would spur them to action.

So, for Christmas this year - several friends of mine are getting notecards, stamps and a pen. No excuses! Noone is too busy to write a quick note.

  3. I write thank you notes for every present I receive and if someone gives me a little extra help.

I also use “please” and “thank you” every day. It makes a huge difference in how people approach you and how you approach other people.

My grandmother has often commented that I’m the only grandchild who’s ever sent her a thank you note. It’s a simple way to lift someone’s spirits.
